Since 2007, Zamatech has developed projects both from planning through to implementation, either providing Professional Engineering Services or acting as a specialist System Integrator. The following list highlights some recent projects in which the company has participated in various capacities.
MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY
Central BMS Server Project
In 2008 Zamatech developed a Strategy Guideline for Building Management Systems at This strategic approach helped the property office develop a clear direction for its technology that saw a move towards greater openness and a multi-vendor engagement strategy using common technology based on the Niagara Framework by Tridium. The system has grown from a few hundred points to over 10,000 points in 3 years. Zamatech maintains the centralised server system housed in the University Data Centre that allows vendors to "plug-in" to the Campus BMS network, creating a community of buildings with centralised web graphics, alarm handling and data historians.
Electricity Submain Metering System
During 2009 and 2010, Zamatech helped Macquarie Property develop a metering system based on metering surveys conducted by external consultants during 2009. Zamatech specified and built the metering server, and using distributed historians and the Campus network, developed a responsive metering network able to measure and report electrical loads accurately down to 1 minute intervals. The data is used to create sustainability reports, sub-billing cost allocation and diagnosis. The metering system is capable of close integration with the Building Management System allowing pro-active load management capability. Zamatech maintains the server and associated metering network. The server infrastructure is hosted within the University Data Centre Co-location facility. New meters are attached to the system by licensed contractors using a common connection pattern, standardised Socomec DIRIS A40 0.5S meter. The system is designed for offline distributed data collection with periodic archival to reduce data loss during network outages on the Campus Wide Area Network.
Cogeneration Plant and Western Precinct buildings
Macquarie University operates a gas fired Cogeneration plant supplying up to 1.5MW of electricity, chilled and heating water to a group of buildings within the western precinct. Zamatech developed metering interfaces to the electrical and gas revenue meters to provide online measurement and energy mass balance to report gas consumption and power generation. The measurement system also aggregates individual building loads to allow balancing of the demand for heating and cooling. This system also assists in the calculation and reporting of NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Certificates (NGACS). Zamatech implemented a link between the Plant Control system (PLC) and the Measurement System that enables the operator to balance the co-generation capacity with building demand.
UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, SYDNEY (UTS)
The University of Technology operates 7 buildings on its Ultimo Campus. Zamatech was employed during 2009 and 2010 to review and advise on the architecture and specification of the Building Management Systems with the Ultimo Campus. Zamatech developed several reviews and plans to upgrade and standardise the technology to improve maintainability and integration features.
Review of Building Management Systems
Zamatech conducted an engineering review of Building Management System implemented over a number of years at UTS. This review provided the UTS Facility Management Unit with a set of recommendations for the improvement and upgrade of the BMS in Building 10 and Building 4.
Campus Metering System
Zamatech developed a project brief for UTS in 2009 for the metering of all buildings on the Broadway Campus, following up in 2011 with a review of the specifications and finally joining the project Technical Working Group (TWG) implementing the roll out monitoring and reporting of some 300-500 electricity meters, gas meters, water meters, Variable Speed Drives and Heat meters. Zamatech provides specialist professional services to the project in system design, systems engineering and design assurance. This system will be scaled to around 1,000 metering points within 2-5 years.
MIRVAC LTD
657 Pacific Hwy, St Leonards
During 2008 Zamatech evaluated the HVAC control system at 657 Pacific Hwy St Leonards, and ultimately supplied a control system solution to improve visibility and reduce energy consumption in the aging mechanical plant.
Mirvac Server Room monitoring
Zamatech developed a monitoring solution for IT Server Room infrastructure for Mirvac Headquarters in Sydney in 2009. This system has continued to provide effective online monitoring using 3G IPWan technology for the Mirvac Server room 24 hours, 7 days a week.
POWER HOUSE MUSEUM, ULTIMO, SYDNEY
Chiller energy strategy
In 2011, Zamatech was employed to review the energy strategy for the Chiller Mechanical and Control System at the Power House Museum in Ultimo, Sydney. Zamatech traced the original Public Works designers (now retired) and developed energy calculations based on comparative operation against the original design envelope. The findings were provided to the Museum, indicating potential savings available by adapting the system to take advantage of improved seawater management to optimise chiller performance.
AMBERLEY RAAF BASE, QLD
Airbase electricity metering system
Zamatech was employed to provide a BACnet interface between the Citect SCADA system and BACnet Building Management Systems at Amberley airbase. The objective was to extract metering data from the existing system to feed into the Power Distribution management and reporting system for approximately 70 substations. The project was successfully trialled and commissioned during 2009/2010.
